Diazepam


  • Class: Anticonvulsant/ sedative
  • Action: Antagonises serotonin, increases the release of and/or facilitation of GABA activity, and diminishes release or turnover of acetylcholine in the CNS. The muscle relaxant properties of diazepam are produced via inhibition of polysynaptic pathways in the spinal cord.
  • Indications: Status epilepticus, convulsions due to poisoning
  • Dosage:               IM, IV
               Cattle, Pig: 0.5 - 1.5 mg/kg
               Dog, Cat: 0.5 - 1.0 mg/kg
               Rabbits: 1 mg/kg IV

               Tab          5 mg          10's
