Dexamethasone

• Class: Synthetic glucocorticoid
• Action: It enhances carbohydrate and protein metabolism, increased hemoglobin, red cells, modify cell mediated immunity and have potent anti inflammatory action. Prolonged use may cause secondary adreno cortical insufficiency.
• Indications: Acute inflammation, bursitis, tendinitis, arthritis, allergic skin diseases, hypersensitivity reactions like asthma, shock, tissue damage, toxemia, stress, ophthalmic inflammatory conditions, pregnancy toxemia, induction of parturition, ketosis.
• Dosage:  

                Cattle: 10-30 mg IM/ IV Total dose

                            4-10 mg Intra articular Total Dose

                Calf, Goat, sheep, Pig: 2-5 mg IM/IV Total Dose

                Dog: 0.5-2 mg IM/ IV Total dose

                         0.25-5 mg Intra articular or orally Total Dose

                Cat:  0.25-0.5 mg IM/IV Total Dose  

                        0.25-2 mg Intra articular or orally Total Dose

                Induction of parturition:

                        Large animals: 40 mg IV
