Ciprofloxacin

  • Class: Fluroquinolone antibiotic
  • Action: It inhibits bacterial DNA-gyrase (a type-II topoisomerase), thereby preventing DNA supercoiling and DNA synthesis resulting in bactericidal action.
  • Anti bacterial spectrum: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella sp., E. coli, Enterobacter, Campylobacter, Shigella, Salmonella, Aeromonas, Haemophilus, Proteus, Yersinia, Serratia, Vibrio, Actinobacillus, Brucella, Pasteurella, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, clostridium, Corynebacterium, Mycoplasma spp, Chlamydia spp, Leptospira spp, Rickettsia spp
  • Indications: Upper RTI, GI Infections, Anthrax, Enterotoxaemia, Mastitis, Uterine infections, UTI, Meningitis, Swine dysentery, Colisepticaemia, Infectious coryza, Salmonellosis, CRD, Fowl cholera
  • Dosage:               Oral, IM, IV
                Cattle,Sheep: 4-5 mg/kg
                Dog, Cat: 5-15 mg/kg
  • Contraindications: In young animals, it may produce arthropathic effect
