Florfenicol


  • Class: Broad spectrum antibiotic
  • Action: It acts by binding to the 50S ribosome, thereby inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis.
  • Indications: Used in cattle for the treatment of bovine respiratory disease (BRD) associated with Pasteurella haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida and Haemophilus somnus.
  • Dosage:              IM
                 Cattle: 20 mg/kg IM (in neck muscle only); repeat in 48 hours or
                             40 mg/kg SC single dose
                 Pig: 15 mg/kg IM;  repeat in 48 hours
                        
                The dose volume given at any one injection site should not exceed 10 ml in                            cattle, 3 ml in pig.
