Enrofloxacin


  • Class: Fluoroquinolone antibiotic
  • Action: It act by inhibiting bacterial DNA-gyrase (a type-II topoisomerase), thereby preventing DNA supercoiling and DNA synthesis resulting in bactericidal action.
  • Anti bacterial spectrum: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella sp., E. coli, Enterobacter, Campylobacter, Shigella, Salmonella, Aeromonas, Haemophilus, Proteus, Yersinia, Serratia, Vibrio, Brucella sp, Chlamydia trachomatis, Staphylococci, Streptococci, Mycoplasma
  • Indications: Mastists, RT infections, pneumonia, HS, BQ, pyometra, metritis, joint ill, uro genital infections, otitis, brucellosis, salmonellosis, colibacillosis, wooden tongue, GI infections, CRD, infectious coryza, pasteurellosis, fowl typhoid, fowl cholera
  • Dosage:               Oral, IM, IV

                Animals: 2.5 - 5 mg/kg
                                Long acting: 7.5 mg/kg

  • Precautions: Contraindicated in young ones below 1 year of age, as it may cause arthropathic effect.
