Clindamycin

  • Class: Lincosamide antibiotic
  • Action: They act by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, thereby inhibiting peptide bond formation.
  • Anti bacterial spectrum: Gram positive cocci, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Nocardia asteroides, Erysepelothrix, Toxoplasma, Mycoplasma sp., Clostridium perfringens, C. tetani (not C. difficile), Bacteroides, Fusobacterium, Peptostreptococcus, Actinomyces, and Peptococcus
  • Indications: Bone and Joint infections, pyoderma, Toxoplasmosis, Oral cavity infections
  • Dosage:               Oral
                 Dog, Cat: 5.5 mg/kg BID or 11 mg/kg OD
                 Toxoplasmosis:
                         Dog, Cat: 25 mg/kg OD in divided doses
