- Class: Aminoglycoside antibacterial
- Action: Act on susceptible bacteria by irreversibly binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit thereby inhibiting protein synthesis. It is considered to be an bactericidal antibiotic.
- Anti bacterial spectrum: Many aerobic gram negative and some aerobic gram positive bacteria, including E. coli, Klebsiella, Proteus, Pseudomonas, Salmonella, Enterobacter, Serratia, and Shigella, Mycoplasma, and Staphylococcus.
- Dosage:
Cattle: 10 mg/kg IM q8h or 25 mg/kg q12h or
22 mg/kg/day IM divided tid
Dogs, Cats: 5 - 10 mg/kg IV, IM or SC
Horse: 6.6 mg/kg IM or IV or
4 - 8 mg/kg q8-12h IM
Birds: 15 mg/kg IM or SC
